The project draws on carefully crafted and extensive interviews and questionnaires with an extensive array of stakeholders in every market to get to the routes of the most significant hurdles. A comprehensive literature review, workshops and webinars will also be conducted.
The project enables a comparative view of how easy it is to enter and compete in and across retail energy markets in Europe. Specifically, it results in tools to assist entrants and policy makers alike.
Our role in the project
VaasaETT, REKK, MRC and The Advisory House carried out a Europe-wide research project to analyse barriers to entry and competition in retail energy markets in the EU. The ground-breaking project, the most extensive of its kind to-date, researched the challenges facing suppliers and other retail market competitors such as aggregators and ESCOs in 30 European electricity and gas markets. All 28 EU Member States plus Switzerland and Norway are researched.
Project highlights
The study was conducted over the course of more than a year through the cooperation of nearly 150 suppliers, almost all relevant national regulatory authorities and many other stakeholder organizations. Deliverables include a Final Report, 28 Country Handbooks and a European Barriers Index Ranking report.
