The EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) and the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER) have recently released Energy Retail and Consumer Protection Market Monitoring Report (MMR) for the year 2023, brimming with insightful findings and invaluable recommendations. Our company made a substantial contribution to the report by providing data and a multi-aspect in-depth analysis.
The key findings of the report shed light on the effectiveness of measures taken by the EU governments in response to the energy crisis, the current state of retail energy markets, consumption patterns, consumer information, and the changing dynamics of consumer protection and engagement in the energy sector.
Throughout our productive collaboration with ACER and CEER, VaasaETT’s analysis focused on:
- Retail energy prices development, unravelling the unprecedented price peak witnessed in autumn 2022 and the subsequent declining trend.
- The implications of the energy crisis on end-user bills and the swift responses of governments to ensure energy security and affordability. The interventions had an immediate impact on consumers’ bills and carried significant fiscal implications.
- The demand response of European electricity and gas consumers at a country level, that showed an overall reduction in 2022, although it’s important to note that the residential sector’s response was somewhat limited.
